“BUT I DIGRESS“ consists of “HEAD TREKS” that represent the conversion of random thoughts, sometimes as “QUICK TREKS”, observations, philosophies and rants into a form of modern cursive expression better known as computer keyboarding. From time to time these thoughts are also summarized under the heading “IT REMAINS TO BE SEEN: QUESTIONS I CANNOT PRESENTLY ANSWER.”

Most readers will have undoubtedly heard of much of the world’s politics and national styles of business being expressed in terms of “world cow commerce”; the latter a means of defining the essential motives and philosophies of how business is conducted within the regimes identified.

Those satirical vignettes based purely on political philosophies are reproduced below. Having had them presented to this writer on more than one occasion and without attribution, no such can be given here either. (Canadian writer and journalist Bill Sherk mentions that such lists circulated throughout the United States since around 1936 under the title "Parable of the Isms” A column in The Chicago Daily Tribune in 1938 attributes a version involving socialism, communism, fascism and New Dealism to an address by Silas Strawn to the Economic Club of Chicago on 29 November 1935).

During these days of world political unrest amid competing political systems, world cow commerce may serve to remind us with singular simplicity of the underlying philosophies that distinguish how societies conduct business that in turn affect the communities therein.

To follow in a future blog will be the particular application of world cow commerce to certain sectors of Canada as this writer sees them.

THEORETICAL SOCIALISM: You have two cows and you give one to your neighbour!

ACTUAL SOCIALISM: You have two cows. The government takes one and gives it to your neighbour!

COMMUNISM: You have two cows. The Government takes both and gives you some milk!

PROGRESSIVE FASCISM: You have two cows. The Government takes both and sells you some milk!

TRADITIONAL FACISM: You have two cows. The Government takes both then threatens to kill one of the cows if you don’t talk, and finally disposes of you anyway.

BUREAUCRATISM: You have two cows. The Government takes both, shoots one, milks the other and throws the milk away, not before paying you subsidies to go along with the scheme.

LIBERAL CAPITALISM: You don’t own any cows but declare that you have an inherent right to the benefits of owning two of them.

TRADITIONAL CAPITALISM: You have two cows. You sell one and buy a bull. Your herd multiplies, and the economy grows. You sell the offspring as future income, then retire and live off the earnings from the income.
